November 20, 2009seasons
November 13, 2009i dont have a favorite season. they all have there good and bad points. if i had to choose, id have to say fall and spring are my favorite. summer can get really hot and winter just doesn’t have any snow. spring and fall anrnt too hot and i don’t have really have a cold limit. i like spring because everything is green again and i can go out on the river. in spring, when i go camping, the nights can still be cold, which add to the whole experience. I like fall, because its cooler than summer, the leaves change colors, and its still warm to go swimming and out on the river. the only thing i don’t like about fall is daylight savings time. its dark a whole lot earlier in the day. i can’t do anything when i get home from school. I like the different seasons because its always changing.

greatest fear
October 30, 2009i think my greatest fear is heights. I am fine if im on a roller coaster secruley strapped in or rapelling with a harness on and secure anchors. but im i am on the edge of a cliff probably starting at 40 feet, i get really scared. the first time i went rapellin i went to buck’s pocket. i was told it was like a 35-45foot bluff. it took me 15 minutes to go down it. because i took so long going down, my legs were shaking afterwards. As soon as i hit the ground i was told i just went down a 75 foot bluff. After that I love rapelling. but every time i look over the edge, i can feel the fear just sinking in. but as long as i am secure, i can overcome my fear. fear within reason…
Obama getting the nobel peace prize
October 16, 2009I don’t think they should have given him the nobel peace prize. He didn’t do anything. Has disarmed all nuclear weapons? No…. He only promised to. This was the same promise that was made by practically all the other presidents who have been in office in the modern nuclear era. How come they didnt get a nobel peace prize? But i forgot… Obama is our president and whatever else he says is suddenly new philosophical things that will save all of humanity forever. What is he going to do next? say “I’m going to end world hunger.” BAM!!! nobel peace 2 down. Without anyone asking him how he’s going to do it or at least wait for him to actually end it. but no. because he is the president. The first black president we have ever had. So he is better than everyone else. I do not see what the big deal is. Whoop de do… we have a president who comes from a different ethnic background. We had plenty different ethic backgrounds before, oh wait…. if forgot they’re all white, they don’t count. People made a big deal during the election, “oooo don’t be racist, vote for obama.” something along the lines of that. Racism isn’t just the idea of white supremacy. You can also discrimanate against whites, hispanics, pacific islanders, oriental, etc. People who voted for him just to help make “history” and put someone with a different race in office could be considered racist. They didn’t want a caucasian in office. I don’t why the books and everyone are going to remember him as “the first black president”. Why not, “the 44th AMERICAN president” who does some good things; that is if he changes what he’s doing now. I personally think that because he looks different than all the other presidents they gave him the nobel peace prize. I think it’s stupid. Bush had a WAR on terrorism and disarming nuclear weapons. He didn’t get a nobel peace prize. Maybe now they’re judging on who gets a nobel peace prize by how perfect you are. He spoke with an accent when he said nuclear so they couldn’t give him a nobel peace prize. And he’s white…. and since he’s white, he’s been catered to all his life.

Fishing
One of my favorite activities is the sport of fishing. I have fished as long as I can remember. When I think of fishing, I always think of my family and friends, whom I have always associated with fishing. I like fishing anywhere, but I have my favorite fishing holes.
The first place I ever fished at was the Tennessee River. My family went out on our boat shortly after we bought it. We only caught a few fish, but it planted a seed in my heart, the love of fishing. Before I was able to go fishing, I had to get the tools. My dad took me to a fishing store to get my first fishing rod. It was an off-brand rod, but it was my first rod. I was really excited about it. I got to choose my very own rod out of the huge selection they had. My first rod was a closed face spin caster. It was a forest green color, and it came with a yellow plastic weight for practicing your cast. I was so excited that I had a fishing rod that I went out in my backyard and started practicing my cast right away. I cast my line in every direction, curving the line of trajectory in every way possible. While practicing in my backyard, I got my line stuck for the first time in my oak tree. I was able to get it down easily, but that moment started that line of bad luck that every fisherman gets once in a while. Trees are probably the worst friend for a fisherman. I practiced for a couple of days before we went out on our boat. I was ready. This section of the Tennessee River that I fished on is also known as Wheeler Lake. I have fished here a lot in my lifetime. I usually fish with my dad and older brother, Aaron, on Wheeler Lake. We usually catch a good number of fish for fishing off of a ski boat when we go fishing on Wheeler Lake. My dad has taken me fishing a considerable amount of times in my life and was usually a leader when my scout troop went on fishing campouts.
One of the merit badges you can obtain in scouts is the Fishing merit badge. My scout troop and I quickly achieved this badge early on in our years of scouting. We would go on several fishing campouts a year. My dad and another dad of a fellow scout would be the fishing experts on our campouts. They would take us up and down the Tennessee River to different campgrounds. We would fish at Lake Wilson, Wheeler Lake, and Guntersville Lake. We would always fish for brim and bass. Sometimes we would catch catfish. We would have two bass boats and have contests to see who could catch the most and biggest fish. I always enjoyed these fishing campouts. One year we had the privilege of camping on a retired bird dog trainer’s farm and fish his ponds. For three days, we were fishing. We did not bring a lot of food on this campout because we were going to live off of what we caught. We were able to catch more than enough fish to sustain us for three days. For two days, we fished two ponds for bass and brim. The last night, we fished in a stocked catfish pond. While some might call this cheating, you still have to catch the fish. The fish was frozen and brought back with us.
While the sport of fishing is one of my favorite things, fishing is not complete without fish fry’s. Eating the fish is also part of my love for the sport. Each fish has its own different taste. While largemouth bass are fun to fish for, they are not among my favorite fish to eat. I like to eat crappie more than bass. Other fish taste good, but are smaller and therefore do not contain as much meat. Of these smaller fish, brim are personal favorite of mine. One of my favorite ways to eat them is blackened fish. It is a form a Cajun cooking. But of all the different kinds of fish I like to eat, catfish is one of my favorites, the bottom dwelling fish that is the garbage disposal of the water. It is one of the ugliest fish, slipper, and ready to cut you if you do not handle it with care. Besides the fact that it eats trash, underneath its slippery layer armed to the fins with needles lies a succulent meat that I think is one of the best. Others however might say it tastes just like what it eats and is maybe…an “acquired” taste. The first time I ever saw a catfish, I was fishing with my older brother, Aaron.
Aaron would take me fishing a lot when I was younger. He also had a big part in fueling my passion for fishing. He would take me when it was just him and when had a friend or two with him. For a long time, we would fish along Aldridge creek. We had a little fishing hole that sustained a nice size population of brim. You could always catch a fish no matter what time of day. The fish were not as big as you would like them to be, but you could always catch a fish. When Aaron was able to drive, we would go down to Ditto Landing. We found a spot one day, where the fishing was just right. We were reeling in largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, and brim for as long as we were there. They were all good sizes. My family also fishes on my grandpa’s land. This is where I learned more about fishing from my dad. On one outing, I threw my line over a tree and did not realize it until I caught a fish. Thankfully, I was able to reach the fish and my line out in front of me.
Although freshwater fishing is a big part of my life, saltwater fishing is just as fun. In the past, my family would take our boat to Delaware when we visited family. We would fish in the bay for flounder and trout. Last summer, I was able to go on my first deep sea fishing trip. I fell in love with it. You couldn’t see the shore at all. It was just you, the continuously rocking boat, and the fish. My family went on this trip. We ended up with a cooler full of fish.
Fishing is a part of my life. It is a favorite activity of mine. My family and I still go fishing occasionally. Although I am out of scouts now, due to my age, it has not kept my friends and me from going on fishing campouts. We all grew up with fishing and love it. From the moment I picked out my first fishing pole with my dad to a couple weeks ago when a best friend and me went fishing, I have loved to fish.
funny story that happened to me
October 12, 2009The first thing I thought of, was a summer campout my venturer crew went on a couple years ago. We went up to Lake Conasauga to fish, mountain bike, canoe, and swim. One day, we were all fishing. A buddy of mine and I put away our poles and started looking for tree branches for a game that I guess you can say it’s sort of like hockey and tag. We walked up a mountain side to look for some tree branches. After we found some, we were walking back to the hill. I saw the biggest frog ever get startled and roll down the hill. Then I had to climb over a fallen tree dragging a branch. My foot sank in to the ground and my ankle felt like I stepped into a briar bush. I felt about 6 sharp pricks and they were far apart. I hadn’t looked down until a second later and I saw my leg covered in yellowjackets. I had just stepped into their nest. At that moment, my leg was on fire. For me, this wasnt really funny. but everyone else started to laugh from what they heard and from what happened next. Everyone else was about twenty five feet down the hill fishing. They heard me yell out about the frog that jumped out below me and my friend. Then they me say, “ow. ow. ow.. ow.” The first five or so bites that were spaced out. They all thought the frog was biting me. then they saw me running down the hill jumping up and down trying to brush yellow jackets off my leg and running away from a swarm. I ran down to the dock where they were at about to jump into the water, and one of my leaders told me that doesnt work. So while my leaders and I were quikly discussing it, the rest of the swarm caught up. and tried to bite everyone else. They sent me running down the trail to get the bugs away from them and to get away from the bugs. When I got back to the campsite, my leg was so swollen that you couldn’t really tell the difference between my calf and my ankle. They were the same size. If you don’t really find thins funny, I guess it was a “you had to be there” kind of things.
